Fission track thermochronology and (U-Th)/He thermochronology are methods for reconstructing the time-temperature histories of rock samples in the upper 1 to 10 km of the Earth’s crust. Although the two methods are quite different from each other, they yield highly complementary data and are best applied together for most application.

The Fission Track Laboratory provides facilities and expertise for a wide range of potential studies in the fields of tectonics, neotectonics, basin and provenance analysis, petroleum maturation, ore deposits, etc. The Noble Gas Laboratory provides facilities for complementary (U-Th)/He analyses.
